All In A Day

Just another day in L.A.? We started off by going to the reception party for the Open Call L.A. show at the Municipal Gallery, where our friend Eiko Battle and I are both exhibiting pieces.

Straight from the party we went to an industrial location downtown to photograph actress Kikey Castillo. I snapped a few pictures of her as she transformed into her alter ego - the kick-ass sword wielding super hero, The Blue Lynxx.

Vince later took this awesome picture of her in full gear. I wouldn't mess with this chick!

HAIL CENTURION!

After two recent visits to the Getty Villa I felt inspired to make a print of this Greco-Roman hard body. Who needs arms with abs like that?!

William Wendt's Garden #1 & #2

I was so inspired by the William Wendt exhibit that we saw at the Laguna Beach Museum a few months ago that I had to buy the book to the show which has in turn made me want to live in William Wendt land, a place of open fields and fresh air before the masses arrived and trampled it all asunder.

A Day With Nile

Every year VInce takes photographs of our dear friends Nile, Christopher (and their son Kostya) to celebrate their anniversary. This year we went downtown for our photo adventure and after a few hours we started getting silly and of course those are my favorite pictures.

Poppies!

California at it's finest! There's nothing like playing in the poppy fields on a beautiful spring day.

Rocks and Ice

Inspired by a photograph taken by Tammie Lee. Thanks Tammie for the great images for me to riff on.

Pink Lady

I like this print because she looks like she's winking, she has an eye in her hand and kinda looks like Salma Hayek. The best part is that she's actually a "he" but once I got through with it it's sex had changed to a decidedly feminine figure.

The Colors of California

The moon captured my imagination as I sat at my writing desk distracted by the beauty of a day ending and a night just about to begin.

Peaceful Buddha

I originally did an etching of this Buddha head but I messed it up and made his lip give a viscous Elvis Presley snarl. The second time around I used styrofoam board instead of steel plate and he finally came out how I had envisioned him - peaceful and full of grace.

Art Works!

Check out this interview with Everett Peck, creator of the animated t.v. series, "Duckman" and "Squirrel Boy."  This is the first of a series of interviews with working artists who actually make a living as artists, hence the name, "Art Works!"

Mammoth

We walked from Devils Postpile to Rainbow Falls, a gorgeous walk through a canyon with a river. It was worth every effort to get there including those really steep stairs to get down to the falls. Excellent! VInce's photograph captures the way I felt when I was in wonder and awe of this natural beauty.

Thursday Nights At Barnsdall

The first print is of a lake in China.

I usually etch in my class but since I wasn't prepared to make one last week I made some block prints instead. My dining room is full of Buddhas and it's making me feel happy :)

Dog Days of Summer

We went to Doggy Style's French Bulldog Soiree this week where we photographed about 15 Frenchies running around like bats outta hell. It's one of the cutest things I've ever seen and my face was sore from smiling the entire time.

The party's over

Bark Magazine

I helped my friend Alysia Grey Painter round up some actors for an article she was writing about people who make a living making animal sounds. I was interviewed too so check out the article.

Back Cat

We were taking a walk when this kitty came running up to us as if we were the best of friends. It only took a moment before it was purring on Vince's back.
